Katy woman accuses T-Mobile, debt collectors of harassment
A Katy woman claims she is being harassed by collection agencies demanding she pay a debt they allegedly never verified.
Georgia Strong filed a lawsuit July 28 in Harris County District Court against T-Mobile USA Inc. Superior Asset Management and Pinnacle Financial Group.
According to the petition, Superior Asset Management contacted her to collect an outstanding balance of more than $361 on her T-Mobile account. Strong says that in November 2010, she sent a letter, through an attorney, to the debt collector informing the company she had retained counsel. She demanded Superior send all correspondence to her attorney, including verification of the debt. Strong claims a month later she received another letter directly from Superior without any verification.
In February, Strong says she received a collection letter from Pinnacle Financial Group. Again, through an attorney, Strong allegedly sent a cease-and-desist letter saying she had an attorney and asking for verification of the debt. Strong claims she never received the verification.
Strong accuses T-Mobile of violating Texas' Debt Laws for using third-party collectors. She accuses Superior and Pinnacle of violating federal debt collection laws and of negligence. Strong is asking to be paid more than $66,000 in damages plus court fees.
Attorney Lu Ann Trevino, of Houston, is representing Strong.
